What We Achieved ๐Ÿ†

Working on Prequel has always been exciting, and one of our most ambitious projects was the redesign of the Photo and Video Editor. This project significantly improved the product and increased revenue by $100 000 per month through only design changes.

Identifying the Problem

Prequel began as a simple camera app with effects, gradually transforming into an editor. This solution was modern and familiar to our โ€œShort videosโ€ users, but:

๐Ÿค”ย  As the product grew and the number of tools increased, issues with navigation, scalability, and readability emerged. These problems were overlooked, with each product manager focusing on their own tasks, leading to an inconsistent interface and technical debt that hampered performance, inconsistency and delayed making new features.

Also, stakeholder believed, than Fullscreen media, overlayed panel was been unique key of Prequel and even trying validated this ideology through feedback from some users

Initiating the Process

I took the initiative and approached our CPO. After several attempts to advocate for my proposals and mapping out all problem areas of the product, i began a thorough analysis to understand how to solve these challenges.

I gathered more data, mapping the entire architecture of the editor, including technical capabilities and issues of the tools. Researching competitors and analyzing our funnels helped identify usage drops for tools that were not easily accessible.

As a result, a dedicated team was formed, including a product manager, researcher, and analyst. Our initial research helped identify key areas requiring change.

Addressing Initial Challenges

The first challenge was to resolve architectural and usability issues in the legasy design. New features were hard to integrate, and users struggled with navigation and tool discovery. We validated these issues through:

Developing the New Architecture

The main objective was to create a more accessible, clean, and intuitive interface. We aimed to simplify navigation, enhance usability, and ensure scalability with increasing tools and features.
